we continue with dana perino and stuart varney. attacking people's religion, the president keeps telling us, we ought not offend the prophet muhammad. maybe he has a lecture for harry reid who said he's coming to a state where there's a lot of members of the latter-day saints, lds, that they understand he's not the face of mormonnism, said that he's sullied mormonnism. >> is there anything harry reid won't say? he said he hasn't paid taxes. now attacking his religion. >> it's been three weeks since there was a disgraceful comment by senator reid. we were due one. this happened to be very offensive. most of the media would say, that's exactly right. no one reports on harry reid's religion. >> bill: listen, i'm not allowed to bring up jeremiah wright. >> you're not? >> bill: no, i mean because -- he knew nothing about jeremiah wright's radical islam. nothing. >> where is the screaming headline about attacking governor romney's religion? you will not see it. >> bill: these guys go on -- their little buddies, go on "meet the press," al

because i have one of the best colleagues in the business, dana bash, she got the inside story. it is fascinating. one of the things i can't believe you're able to unearth is this anecdote about the 2008 campaign preps between mccain and obama. did rob portman -- is this true, did he get cyndi mccain to cry? >> he did. i don't think that was his intention, i know it wasn't, but he did. and the reason is because they were in debate prep, he was playing barack obama, and he was apparently so believable in his role as barack obama and more importantly so tough, hard hitting against his sparring partner, john mccain, that cindy mccain got very upset and ran crying out of the room. i talked to rob portman about that, he told me that story, and listen to what he said about why it is so important, to be so hard on his republican opponents in debate prep. >> part of your responsibility in these debates is to be tougher than your opponent. so that they -- the candidate you're helping is ready for the worst of it. so, you know, you have to be a little mean sometimes and kind of try to get

dana, if i might start with you. an insightful political observer such as yourself has seen these two gentlemen in many a debate. but if your path to success relies on mitt romney's comic timing, isn't the zinger likely to become something of a boomerang and hit mr. romney instead of his opponent? >> you know, everybody always remembers the great zingers. you know, usually something from ronald reagan, but here we go again expecting that people are going to try a little bit too hard. there's a real danger when you've been supplied with premixed, ready-made zingers to insert into the debate that mitt romney will insert them at the wrong time or say them not quite right. the only thing worse than having no zinger is having a zinger that comes off badly and comes back to bite you. so i think that's a perilous way to go, but i'll be there in denver, and i look forward to the attempts because it will make it far more interesting. >> indeed. we're delighted, ron, that you're here. you have devealed to us for the first time

dana, that was really fascinating. interesting that you spoke to the republican strategist brad o'donnell, one of romney's primary debate here. he spent a lot of time with him during the primaries. how much does the romney think that those 20 or so debates in the primaries is going to help him win tonight? >> well, of course, any debate that any candidate has they think will help, but, you know, this is a very, very different ballgame. first of all, mitt romney was standing next to about half a dozen people at any given moment. this is mano-y-mano with the president of the united states. also, the tens of millions of viewers will be watching. it is a very different dynamic. that's why, interestingly, suzanne, this is the first time during this debate prep process which mitt romney started about a month ago during the democratic convention, the first time he has done these mock debates through all of those primaries. he never did a formal mac debate with what he called game day conditions. >> wow. that's really interest

now dana and troy can say good- bye to the cramped quarters. dana gave me a message for anyone who thinks such a nightmare can't happen to them. >> it can happen. >>> deborah: in fact, since the housing crisis began, there are a rash of cases of squatting which do take a long time to resolve because of the sometimes murky ownership issues. >>> the new season of "dancing with the stars" has begun and bristol palin is competing for the disco ball and mother sarah was in the front row center to cheer her own. >> bristol palin turns on the sexy in front of mama grizzly. on the debut of the all star version of dancing with the stars, bristol showed off her slimmed down bod and shape apply legs with sarah palin sitting in the front row. >> bristol is it really you? refreshed, revived, refurbished. >> sarah was there with husband todd and bristol's son tripp who didn't like the loud applause. she is up against pam anderson who did not one but two splits showing she still has it in a fringe mini. it's hard to believe pam is 45 years old. >> pamela? you
